Newspaper History Questions.

1. What makes a newspaper different from other printed media?
A newspaper is different from other printed media because it has a date of when the story happened. A newspaper is sent out every week, month and year where a book is only distributed once. A newspaper focuses on alot of different subjuects where a book talks about one subject or story. A newspaper also does not give an opinion on the subject where a editorial is all about the writters opinion on the subject.

2. What role did the Industrial Revolution play in expanding the readership of newspapers?
The Industrial Revolution played a role in expanding the readership of newspapers when bigger and more powerful presses came along and made it alot easier to make 10 thousand copies in an hour. During the Civial War the demand for newspapers increased dramaitcally because everyone wanted to know what the troops were doing and about the war. Reporters soon became the most popular people in the town and idols to young children. Both the amount of papers produced and and there paid circulations increased.

3. What kind of relationship did Pullitzer and Hearst have with each other? Why?
Pullitzer and Hearst did not have a good relationship. They had been fighting for readers of the New York Streets for years. When Hearst moved to New York to start his newspaper, he started using Pullitzer tricks of yellow journalism. Hearst took away some of Pullitzer's journalists by offering them higher pay. Hearst also got the most famour atrtist, drawers, and writers to make his paper better than Pullitzer's.

4. What is meant by 'Yellow Journalism?'
Yellow Journalism means taking an acual story and twisting it around so that the reader stays interested in what they are reading, or even just making up a story so that readers keep reading there newspaper.

5. When was the Spanish-American war? Who was involved?
The Spanish-American War was from April 25 to August 12, 1898. The people that were involved in it were the Spanish and the Americans because the Americans became angry with all the reports of the Spanish Atrocities.

6. Including at least one picture, cartoon, or news story in your answer, explain how yellow journalism help initiate the Spanish-American war.
Yellow Journalism helped initiate the Spanish-American war because Heasrt and Pulltizer percived conflict with Spain in there newspapers to get more people to read it. This then made the Americans mad and decided to start a war against Spain.

7. What is meant by the term 'Sensationalism' ?
Sensationalism is the journalistic use of subject matter that appeals to vulgar tastes.

8. Would you mind telling a small lie if it meant making a sale or a bit of extra money for yourself?
The only way I would lie to make money or a sale would be if I knew 100% that it wasn't going to hurt anyone phisically or emotionally.
